OFFICE AIDE II - FINANCE (At-Will/Hourly/Part-Time)

QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High school graduation or equivalent required. Additional clerical training and previous office and computer experience desirable. English/Spanish bilingual speaker required.

Knowledge and Ability: Knowledge of current office methods, practices, and equipment. Knowledge of record keeping and document filing methods. Ability to perform close and detailed work accurately, operate an adding machine and cash register, input data into a computer for several hours per day, sort and deliver mail, answer telephones, follow oral and written directions, and maintain a good working relationship with the public and fellow employees.

License Required: Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record.

GENERAL DUTIES: Under supervision, will perform a variety of clerical functions. Responsibilities will include reconciling receipts, cashiering, computer input, filing, answering telephones, responding to citizen inquiries, attending dog vaccination clinics, operating copy and fax machines, record keeping, sorting and delivering mail, and other duties as assigned.

GENERAL DUTIES: Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the successful candidate will be assigned to work in the STAR After School Program at elementary and middle schools within the City of Paramount; facilitate the delivery of the Kidzlit literacy curriculum in addition to math, enrichment, recreational, and homework assistance; maintain clean and organized classroom areas; actively participate in professional development activities including training workshops and coaching; supervise and ensure the safety of students; implement and assist in the supervision of recreation activities, sports programs, special events, and excursions; employ positive classroom management and discipline techniques; consistently support the mission of the STAR program; communicate with parents and volunteers as needed; and perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to operate power equipment used in grounds and building maintenance including lawn mowers, edgers, weeders, blowers, water pumps, sweepers, vacuums; and perform work requiring physical strength and dexterity; repetitively lift 50 pounds; communicate clearly and concisely; work outdoors; follow oral and written directions; and work with fellow employees and the public.

Waters, cultivates and fertilizes trees, shrubbery, flowers and lawns; mows and edges with hand and power equipment; prunes and trims shrubs and small trees; cleans park drinking fountains and restroom facilities; and collects trash and rakes leaves at park sites. Assumes responsibility for the general appearance and sanitary condition of a park or recreation area, which may include the painting of facilities and repairing of equipment. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field along with relevant experience preferable. Applicants who are currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in any of the aforementioned areas and possess at least 2 years of relevant accounting experience may be substituted for 4-year degree requirement. Proof of enrollment in an accredited 4-year university will be required at the time of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices; experience with computerized accounting systems; proficiency with Microsoft Excel; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to perform various types of heavy manual labor, repetitively lift up to 80 pounds, operate heavy equipment, work outdoors, safely operate power equipment used in grounds, building, road, and water maintenance; perform work requiring physical strength and dexterity; follow oral and written directions and work with fellow employees and the public.

GENERAL DUTIES:  Under supervision, performs variety of maintenance duties for the City. May include mowing and edging of landscape; cleans drinking fountains, restroom facilities, and roadways; collects trash. Installs, maintains, paves, and patches asphalt and concrete streets and parking areas; builds forms for sidewalks; pours cement. Repair of electrical, electronic, plumbing and irrigation systems; maintenance of vehicle fleets; carpentry, painting, woodworking, and other building maintenance related projects. Reports work progress; submits purchase requisitions for materials and equipment and performs other duties as assigned.
