ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS

Under the general direction of the Director of Public Works, the Assistant Public Works Director will be responsible for the daily operation and supervision of the City's Public Works Department. Oversee and direct the daily operations of three Divisions: Water, Facility Maintenance and Landscape Maintenance. Develop, implement and coordinate divisional goals and objectives, policies and procedures; evaluate the operations and activities of the Department. Participate in the implementation and coordination of the public works maintenance management process. Participate in the preparation of the annual operating budget for the entire Public Works Department including individual Division budgets. Supervise and participate in a variety of personnel actions, including selections, promotions, performance evaluations, disciplinary measures, and dismissals. Respond to public inquiries and requests relative to maintenance services. Oversee the preparation of plans and specifications for improvements and modifications to water systems, streets, parks, public buildings, and other public works facilities. Prepare RFP's and RFQ's for professional and maintenance related services and monitor contract work. Prepare specifications for the purchase of new equipment. Prepare written reports regarding operations, personnel, budget and a variety of other subjects. Coordinate with other City management staff to meet the overall goals and objectives of the City. Develop/conduct training programs for staff. Perform the duties of the Director of Public Works in his/her absence. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Ability: Operational characteristics, services and activities of a public works program including engineering, traffic, waterworks, maintenance and source control functions. Principles and practices of program development and administration. Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications. Principles and practices of municipal budget preparation and administration. Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation. Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely; and make presentations before public groups. License Required: Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record.

MAINTENANCE AIDE - Landscape, Part-Time At-Will

QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High school graduation or equivalent desirable. Requires recent paid park maintenance experience.

Knowledge and Ability: Knowledge of the routine tasks relating to grounds keeping and building maintenance work. Ability to perform various types of heavy manual labor, repetitively lift up to 80 pounds, operate heavy equipment, work outdoors, safely operate power equipment used in grounds and building maintenance; perform work requiring physical strength and dexterity; follow oral and written directions and work with fellow employees and the public.

License Required: Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record.

GENERAL DUTIES: Under supervision, maintains City parks. Waters, cultivates, and fertilizes trees, shrubbery, flowers, and lawns; mows and edges with hand and power equipment; prunes and trims shrubs and small trees; sprays plants and trees; cleans park drinking fountains and restroom facilities; collects trash and rakes leaves at park sites. Other duties as assigned.

HOURS: Approximately 25 hours per week. The Homework Help Program at the Paramount Petroleum Community Learning Center is open 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday. Hours for part-time positions are not guaranteed.

RECREATION COORDINATOR- HOMEWORK HELP PROGRAM, Part-Time At-Will

QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Completion of two years college course work and 48 completed semester units required (must provide a copy of college transcripts to verify units). Experience in recreation education or other related field preferred.
Position: The Homework Help Program at the Paramount Petroleum Learning Center is a drop-in program and students are free to enter and leave the program at their discretion. The program was designed to help students with their academic skills through on-site tutoring and computer-based enrichment activities. The program provides homework assistance and support in a wide range of general education courses. We work closely with the Paramount Unified School District and other service oriented organizations. The goal is to provide programs and services that increase the academic achievement and educational expectations of the City's residents. The Coordinator is responsible for providing the onsite leadership to ensure the program's effectiveness and success.
Knowledge and Ability: The successful candidate will have the ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and implement special events; supervise, assist, and safeguard children participating in the program; communicate clearly and concisely; supervise and evaluate employees; knowledge of basic education skills in math, reading and writing is a must; will have a working knowledge of implementation and assessment of municipal recreation programs.
License/Certification Required: Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record. Must possess (within 30 days of hire) and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid.

GENERAL DUTIES: Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, will coordinate the operation of an after-school program; supervise instructional staff; manage and implement a successful homework help program; maintain a clean and organized facility; actively participate in professional development activities including training workshops; supervise recreation activities and special events; employ positive classroom management and discipline techniques; consistently support the mission of the program; communicate regularly with students, parents, and supervisors; manage program logistics such as the collection of student data and attendance records. The candidate will assist with all related Paramount Education Partnership events and fundraisers, such as the Scholarship Program, Scholarship Annual Fundraiser and the Pennies for PEP Fundraiser. Assist the Program Director with program development and evaluation activities; and perform other duties as assigned.
