SENIOR LIFEGUARD/LIFEGUARD/AQUATIC AIDE - Part-Time At-Will, temporary position (summer)

WAGE & HOURS: Senior Lifeguard $14.18 - $17.23 per hour / Lifeguard $12.83 - $15.60 per hour / Aquatic Aide $11.15 - $12.91 per hour. Work hours and schedules vary according to program and participant needs. Applicants must be available to work various hours of the day, night and weekends during summer months.

REQUIREMENTS &
CERTIFICATIONS: Applicants for all three classifications must possess the following certifications upon hire:
* Valid Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
* Valid Red Cross CPR Certification
* Certification of Red Cross Standard First Aid
* Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification

Senior Lifeguard: Applicants must be 18 years of age and have previous lifeguard and swim instruction experience within the same or similar aquatics program. Candidates must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions, work effectively with the public, think and act quickly and effectively in emergencies, prepare written reports, as required.
Essential Job Functions: May include, but not limited to, the following: teach all levels of instructional swim programs; patrol swimming pool areas; correct unsafe practices; assist swimmers in distress; enforce swimming pool rules and regulations regarding conduct of patrons; perform CPR and first aid treatment as required; assist in facility and swimming pool maintenance; may assist in record keeping and collection of fees; may test and record chemical levels at program pool; supervise and train Lifeguards and Aquatic Aides; performs other related duties as assigned.

Lifeguard: Applicants must be a minimum of 15 years of age and have previous experience as a Lifeguard within the same or similar aquatics program. Applicants who possess previous seasonal Aquatics Aide experience in the City of Paramount's aquatics program will also receive consideration for Lifeguard classification. Candidates must also have the ability to follow oral and written instructions, work effectively with the public, think and act quickly and effectively in emergencies, and prepare written reports, as required.
Essential Job Functions: Under supervision and direction of the Senior Lifeguard, duties may include, but not limited to, the following: patrol swimming pool areas, correct perform CPR and other first aid treatment as required; assist in facility and swimming pool maintenance; may assist in record keeping and collection of fees; may test and record chemical levels at program pool; performs other related duties as assigned.

Aquatic Aide: Applicants must be a minimum of 15 years of age. Candidates must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions and work effectively with the public.
Essential Job Functions: Under supervision and direction of Senior Lifeguards and Lifeguards, duties may include, but not limited to, the following: checking clothing and personal belongings of pool participants in and out of locker room area; maintaining locker room safety and upkeep; registration of participants in aquatic programs; collection and accounting of pool/program fees; answer telephones and assist with counter-traffic; assist Lifeguards in teaching swim lessons for program participants; performs other related duties as assigned.

ASSISTANT PUBLIC SAFETY DIRECTOR (Full-Time)

DEFINITION: The Assistant Public Safety Director assists with and serves as a liaison for all public safety services, consisting of County Sheriff, code enforcement, parking enforcement, County Fire, emergency preparedness, crossing guards, health regulation and animal control. The Assistant Public Safety Director is responsible for helping to ensure that these programs meet the needs of the community.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Requires Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or related field. Requires five years of experience in a public safety environment, including significant administrative and supervisory responsibilities. Master's degree is highly desirable but not required.

Knowledge and Ability: Operational characteristics, services and activities of a public safety program. Ability to monitor a large contract with an outside law enforcement agency. Principles and practices of program development and administration. Office procedures, methods, and use of equipment including computers and applicable software applications. Principles and practices of municipal budget preparation and administration. Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation. Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely; and make presentations before public groups.

License Required: Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record.

GENERAL DUTIES: Under the general direction of the Director of Public Safety, the Assistant Director will be responsible for assisting with the daily operation and supervision of the City's Public Safety Department. Oversee and direct the daily operations of three Divisions: Sworn, Non-Sworn and Code Enforcement. Develop, implement and coordinate divisional goals and objectives, policies and procedures; evaluate the operations and activities of the Department. Participate in the preparation of the annual operating budget for the entire Public Safety Department including individual Division budgets. Supervise and participate in a variety of personnel actions, including: selections, promotions, performance evaluations, and disciplinary measures. Respond to public inquiries and requests relative to public safety services. Prepare specifications for the purchase of new equipment. Prepare written reports regarding operations, personnel, budget and a variety of other subjects. Coordinate with other City management staff to meet the overall goals and objectives of the City. Develop/conduct training programs for staff. Perform the duties of the Director of Public Safety in his/her absence. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field along with relevant experience preferable. Applicants who are currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in any of the aforementioned areas and possess at least 2 years of relevant accounting experience may be substituted for 4-year degree requirement. Proof of enrollment in an accredited 4-year university will be required at the time of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices; experience with computerized accounting systems; proficiency with Microsoft Excel; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

License/Certification Required: Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record.

GENERAL DUTIES: Under the general direction of the Finance Director, the Accountant prepares journal entries; reconciles bank and general ledger accounts; reviews expenditure and revenue reports; maintains accounting files and records; assists in the preparation of the City's budget; prepares financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and assists with the preparation of the City's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR); prepares financial reports in compliance with federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations; interfaces with independent auditors; maintains grant related records and prepares periodic grant reports; performs other duties as assigned.

MAINTENANCE AIDE (At-Will/Hourly/Part-Time Position)

QUALIFICATIONS:  Education and Experience: High school graduation or equivalent desirable. Requires recent paid maintenance experience.
Knowledge and Ability: Knowledge of the routine tasks relating to maintenance work. Ability to perform various types of heavy manual labor, repetitively lift up to 80 pounds, operate heavy equipment, work outdoors, safely operate power equipment used in grounds, building, road, and water maintenance; perform work requiring physical strength and dexterity; follow oral and written directions and work with fellow employees and the public.
License Required: Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record.

GENERAL DUTIES:  Under supervision, performs variety of maintenance duties for the City. May include mowing and edging of landscape; cleans drinking fountains, restroom facilities, and roadways; collects trash. Installs, maintains, paves, and patches asphalt and concrete streets and parking areas; builds forms for sidewalks; pours cement. Repair of electrical, electronic, plumbing and irrigation systems; maintenance of vehicle fleets; carpentry, painting, woodworking, and other building maintenance related projects. Reports work progress; submits purchase requisitions for materials and equipment and performs other duties as assigned.
