PUBLIC SERVICE ASSISTANT - (At-Will/Hourly/Part-Time/Non-Sworn Position)

QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High school graduation or equivalent required. Two years of college course work desirable.

Knowledge and Ability: Desk Assignment: Ability to answer phones using proper telephone techniques and etiquette; interact with the public in a polite and courteous manner; obtain accurate information through interview and observation; analyze situations quickly and objectively; acquire a working knowledge of various applicable California Code and Paramount Municipal Code; express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; maintain a good working relationship with the public and fellow employees; work with minimal supervision. Ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable. Fleet Assignment: Excellent customer service skills required. Ability to drive City vehicles safely; interact with the public in a polite and courteous manner; obtain accurate information; express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; maintain a good working relationship with the public and fellow employees.

License Required: Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record.

GENERAL DUTIES: Desk Assignment: Under general supervision, the Public Service Assistant will perform a variety of duties in the within the Public Safety Department including, but not limited to answering telephones; handling walk-in traffic at the Paramount Sheriff's substation; utilizing the Sheriff's Mobile Digital computer system; handling radio traffic on both the City and Sheriff's radio frequencies; interacting with the District Attorney's office on subpoena service; operating a City vehicle; performing general clerical functions including data entry and filing; responding to verbal and written complaints, including requests for information from the public; and performs other duties as assigned.

Fleet Assignment: Under general supervision, the Public Service Assistant will perform a variety of duties in the City's Public Safety Department. Responsibilities will include maintaining the City's fleet of vehicles; facility maintenance and operations support functions. Specific duties will include driving vehicles between the Paramount Sheriff's Station, the Sheriff's Station in Lakewood, and other County locations; deploying the City's fleet of decoy vehicles and radar trailers; and other duties as assigned. Public Safety Maintenance Aides are employees of the City of Paramount and are not sworn officers with the Sheriff's Department. Duties are subject to change at any time at the discretion of the Public Safety Director.

SELECTION

WATER OPERATOR AIDE (At-Will/Hourly/Part-Time)

QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High school graduation or equivalent desirable. Experience in pipeline maintenance or closely related work required.

Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of: methods, tools and equipment used in water works maintenance, and safe work practices. Ability to: repeatedly perform heavy manual labor, including but not limited to lifting up to 80 pounds; working outdoors under adverse weather conditions; safely operating a variety of water maintenance tools and heavy equipment; performing work requiring physical strength and dexterity; detect the need for and complete basic repair work; prepare reports and maintain cooperative working relations with employees and the public.

License/Certification Required: Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record.

GENERAL DUTIES: Under supervision of the Water Operations Supervisor, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work. Performs reading of residential and commercial water meters. Provides customer service through interactions with residents and customers. Performs water service repairs and maintenance work including installation and repair of mains, services, fire hydrants, meters, and any fixtures associated with water construction. Assists with emergency repairs of broken lines and services. Erects barricades around excavation; does semi-skilled concrete work. Operates valves and fire hydrants. Digs ditches and holes with power and manual equipment. Transports tools, division personnel and equipment to or from job sites. Performs duties involved in the hydrant and main line valve maintenance programs. Performs other duties as assigned.

MAINTENANCE AIDE (At-Will/Hourly/Part-Time Position)

QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High school graduation or equivalent desirable. Requires recent paid maintenance experience.

Knowledge and Ability: Knowledge of the routine tasks relating to maintenance work. Ability to perform various types of heavy manual labor, repetitively lift up to 80 pounds, operate heavy equipment, work outdoors, safely operate power equipment used in grounds, building, road, and water maintenance; perform work requiring physical strength and dexterity; follow oral and written directions and work with fellow employees and the public.

License Required: Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record.

GENERAL DUTIES: Under supervision, performs variety of maintenance duties for the City. May include mowing and edging of landscape; cleans drinking fountains, restroom facilities, and roadways; collects trash. Installs, maintains, paves, and patches asphalt and concrete streets and parking areas; builds forms for sidewalks; pours cement. Repair of electrical, electronic, plumbing and irrigation systems; maintenance of vehicle fleets; carpentry, painting, woodworking, and other building maintenance related projects. Reports work progress; submits purchase requisitions for materials and equipment and performs other duties as assigned.
