OFFICE AIDE I (At-Will/Hourly/Part-Time)

QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance. Example combinations include possession of a high school diploma or equivalent and any previous general office experience. English/Spanish speaker also highly desired.
 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: office methods, procedures and office equipment operation including computer use and Microsoft Office software. Skill in: operation of office equipment, correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation; policies and procedures related to department assigned; basic record keeping principles and procedures. Ability to: perform moderately complex office work; organize, prioritize and coordinate work activities; organize, establish, maintain and research office files; compose correspondence from brief instructions; apply judgment effectively within established guidelines; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.


License/Certification Required: Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record.


GENERAL DUTIES: The Office Aide I classification is less complex in its duties than that of the Office Aide II classification. Under general supervision from the Office Aide II and Secretary, the Office Aide I duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Receives visitors and phone calls; answers questions; explains City or department processes, procedures, and/or activities; distributes and explains forms; prepares a variety of documents in draft and final form, such as correspondence, reports, logs, charts and tables; gathers and assembles information; proofreads documents for correct grammar, punctuation and spelling; prepares, validates, processes, and/or checks a variety of documents and records; compiles reports by extracting and/or tabulating information from a variety of sources; schedules appointments, events, facilities or activities; assists in set-up, preparation and tear-down of events and activities, including the purchasing of materials; provides clerical support to various City committees or support groups; prepares mailings, creates and maintains computer and/or hard copy files; and performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Ability: Must be able to interact with the public in an enthusiastic and courteous manner; possess a working knowledge of municipal recreation including development, implementation and assessment of programs; facility maintenance; ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and implement recreational activities, including team and individual sports; supervise, assist, and safeguard children participating in City programs; communicate clearly and concisely; respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in the event of an emergency; work with fellow employees and program participants; supervise and evaluate employees; research and write reports; periodically lift 50 pounds; move furniture; sweep and mop floors and other various cleaning duties.

RECREATION LEADER-STAR AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM, Part-Time At-Will

DEFINITION: Success Through Academics and Recreation (STAR) is a grant-funded after-school program operated in partnership with the Paramount Unified School District. STAR is designed to enhance children's overall academic performance, reduce absenteeism, improve behavior, and re-engage the child in the educational process by providing homework assistance, mentoring, physical fitness, and recreational activities in a safe, supervised environment.

WAGE & HOURS: $10.62 - $12.91 per hour, appointment is generally made at the beginning step. Applicants must be available to work on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday from 1:45 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. and Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.Attendance at monthly Saturday training session is required. Approximately 20-25 hours per week, although not guaranteed. This position works during the school year only.

GENERAL DUTIES: Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the successful candidate will be assigned to work in the STAR After School Program at elementary and middle schools within the City of Paramount; facilitate the delivery of the Kidzlit literacy curriculum in addition to math, enrichment, recreational, and homework assistance; maintain clean and organized classroom areas; actively participate in professional development activities including training workshops and coaching; supervise and ensure the safety of students; implement and assist in the supervision of recreation activities, sports programs, special events, and excursions; employ positive classroom management and discipline techniques; consistently support the mission of the STAR program; communicate with parents and volunteers as needed; and perform other duties as assigned.

CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER (Full-Time)

QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance. Example combinations include graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent and two (2) years of experience involving municipal enforcement, inspections, or investigation. College courses in business or public administration, planning, code enforcement or a related field is desirable. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver license and a satisfactory driving record is required. Possession of Certification from California Association of Code Enforcement Officials for completion of Code Enforcement Officer Training (Basic Course) and PC 832 Certification and ability to speak Spanish is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The successful candidate will have knowledge of the principles and methods of enforcing varied municipal codes; applicable laws, ordinances and codes; principles and methods of investigation utilized in code enforcement inspections; the organization and functions of the various agencies involved in planning, zoning, and land use processes; basic terminology used in zoning, including legal descriptions; regulations and requirements for court evidence documentation. MAINTENANCE AIDE (At-Will/Hourly/Part-Time Position)

QUALIFICATIONS:  Education and Experience: High school graduation or equivalent desirable. Requires recent paid maintenance experience.
Knowledge and Ability: Knowledge of the routine tasks relating to maintenance work. Ability to perform various types of heavy manual labor, repetitively lift up to 80 pounds, operate heavy equipment, work outdoors, safely operate power equipment used in grounds, building, road, and water maintenance; perform work requiring physical strength and dexterity; follow oral and written directions and work with fellow employees and the public.
License Required: Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record.

GENERAL DUTIES:  Under supervision, performs variety of maintenance duties for the City. May include mowing and edging of landscape; cleans drinking fountains, restroom facilities, and roadways; collects trash. Installs, maintains, paves, and patches asphalt and concrete streets and parking areas; builds forms for sidewalks; pours cement. Repair of electrical, electronic, plumbing and irrigation systems; maintenance of vehicle fleets; carpentry, painting, woodworking, and other building maintenance related projects. Reports work progress; submits purchase requisitions for materials and equipment and performs other duties as assigned.
