OFFICE AIDE II - RECREATION DEPARTMENT, Part-Time At-Will

SALARY: $12.85 - $15.61 per hour. Appointment is generally made at the beginning step.

HOURS: Approximately 20 hours per week.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High school graduation or equivalent required. Additional clerical training and previous office and computer experience desirable. English/Spanish bilingual speaker required.

Knowledge and Ability: Knowledge of current office methods, practices, and equipment. Knowledge of record keeping and document filing methods. Ability to perform close and detailed work accurately, input data into a computer for several hours per day, sort and deliver mail, answer telephones, follow oral and written directions, and maintain a good working relationship with the public and fellow employees.

License Required: Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record.

GENERAL DUTIES: Under supervision, will perform a variety of clerical functions. Responsibilities will include computer input, filing, answering telephones, responding to citizen inquiries, operating copy and fax machines, record keeping, sorting and delivering mail, and other duties as assigned.

SELECTION PROCEDURES: The most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the City's testing and interview process. Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a background investigation. The top candidate will be offered employment conditionally upon satisfactorily passing a health screening, which will be conducted at City expense. Proof of legal right to work in the United States will be required prior to employment. The City reserves the right in its absolute discretion to change any of the selection procedures or cancel the recruitment based upon its business needs. The City may change the duties of the position at any time.

PUBLIC SERVICE ASSISTANT-FLEET/FACILITY MAINTENANCE, Part-Time At-Will

SALARY: $14.77 - $17.96 per hour. Appointment is generally made at the beginning step.

HOURS: Approximately 20 hours per week including nights, weekends and holidays. (The number of hours may change due to departmental demands or the City's budget.)

GENERAL DUTIES: Under direction of the Public Safety Director or designee, the Public Safety Maintenance Aide will perform a variety of duties in the City's Public Safety Department. Responsibilities will include maintaining the City's fleet of vehicles, facility maintenance and operations support functions. Specific duties will include driving vehicles between the Paramount Sheriff's Station, the Sheriff's Station in Lakewood, and other County locations; deploying the City's fleet of decoy vehicles and radar trailers; and other duties as assigned. Public Safety Maintenance Aides are employees of the City of Paramount and are not sworn officers with the Sheriff's Department. Duties are subject to change at any time at the discretion of the Public Safety Director.

GENERAL DUTIES: Under general direction, the Public Service Assistant will perform a variety of duties in the City's Public Safety Department. Responsibilities will include answering telephones and handling walk-in traffic at the Paramount Sheriff's substation; utilizing the Sheriff's Mobile Digital computer system; handling radio traffic on both the City and Sheriff's radio frequencies; interacting with the District Attorney's office on subpoena service; operating a City vehicle; performing general clerical functions including computer input and filing; responding to verbal and written complaints from the public; and responding to requests for information from the public. Public Service Assistants are employees of the City of Paramount and are not sworn officers with the Sheriff's Department.

AQUATIC AIDE/LIFEGUARD - Part-Time At-Will, temporary position (summer)

AQUATIC AIDE/LIFEGUARD - Part-Time At-Will, temporary position (summer)

SALARY: Aquatic Aide $10.00-$11.03 / Lifeguard $12.23-$14.86 per hour. Appointment is generally made at the beginning step.

HOURS: Approximately 15-30 hours per week. Flexible hours for entire summer season.

QUALIFICATIONS: Available for the entire summer season. Ability to swim and rescue swimmers who may be in danger in the swimming pool. Applicants must possess the following current certifications:

-Valid Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
-Valid Red Cross CPR Certification
-Certification of Red Cross standard first aid

GENERAL DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Senior Lifeguard, will check clothing and personal belongings of pool participants in and out of locker rooms; will be responsible for locker room safety and maintenance, take registration for swim lessons, collect and account for all monies, and act as receptionist; will be responsible for front office safety and maintenance; and will also be trained in CPR, First Aid, and life guarding skills. Aquatic aides will assist Lifeguards with swimming lessons and supervision of the pool.

Lifeguards will teach swimming lessons, supervise participants in the pool, will be responsible for pool safety and perform maintenance and other duties as assigned.

SELECTION PROCEDURES: The most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the City's interview process. Previous experience is required for the Lifeguard position. Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a background investigation and fingerprint screening. The top candidates will be offered employment upon satisfactorily passing a health screening, which will be conducted at City expense. Proof of legal right to work in the United States will be required prior to employment. The City reserves the right to change any of the selection procedures.
