Paramount Council Names Tom Hansen as New Mayor
At its annual reorganization meeting on April 2, the Paramount City Council elected Tom Hansen as mayor and Daryl Hofmeyer as vice mayor. The Councilmembers will serve one-year terms in their respective offices.
A Paramount resident since 1949, Hansen attended Paramount public schools and went to Compton College before graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. He opened his chiropractic office in 1969 and moved to its current Paramount location in 1972.
This is his third term as mayor.
Hansen has long been involved in the Paramount community as a member of the local Elks Lodge, former president of the Rotary Club, and former member of the board of directors of the Paramount Chamber of Commerce. He served on the City’s Parks and Recreation Commission in the early 1970s and was named to the Planning Commission in 1996. He was elected to the City Council in 2007.
The new mayor is the City’s representative for the Southeast Water Coalition, the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District, the Clean Power Alliance, the County Sanitation Districts of L.A. County Districts 1 & 2, the L.A. County City Selection Committee, and the Gateway Cities/COG I-710 Project Committee.
He replaces outgoing Mayor Diane J. Martinez.
“I thank my colleagues on the Council for electing me to this position and am grateful to the entire Paramount community for giving me the opportunity to serve,” Hansen said. “I will continue the positive leadership that my predecessors have offered, and am ready to keep moving our City forward while facing any challenges in store.“I’ve seen Paramount go through both ups and downs in the many years I’ve lived here. Ultimately, we’re a remarkably vibrant community full of committed and fair-minded people. I look forward to the coming year.”
