SALARY: $4,129.64 - $5,019.60 per month.  Appointment is generally made at the beginning step. (PERS retirement - 2% at 62 retirement formula for new CalPERS members, 2.5% at 55 retirement formula for CalPERS members covered under pre-2013 rules).

Education and Experience:  High school graduation or equivalent desirable. Requires recent full-time experience in road maintenance.  Previous supervisory experience desirable.

Knowledge and Ability: Requires working knowledge of tools, materials, methods and safe practices used in road/concrete maintenance and construction.   Ability to operate a variety of hand tools and pneumatic tools and safely operate equipment and vehicles such as skip loader, patch truck, dump truck, vibra-tamp roller; repetitively lift 50 pounds; communicate clearly and concisely; work outdoors; work under pressure in emergency conditions; follow written and oral directions; ability to maintain a good working relationship with fellow employees.

License Required: Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record.

GENERAL DUTIES: Under general supervision, supervises and trains maintenance personnel, including evaluating employees, and performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work.  Trains personnel in the safe operation of tools and equipment, schedules field work and equipment usage.  This position involves a great deal of maintenance work alongside employees, performing heavy manual duties. Supervises and assists in the installation, maintenance, paving and patching of asphalt and concrete streets, roadways, parking areas, and other City facilities.  Supervises and assists in cutting and preparing streets for paving and patching, spreading pre-mix and oil, raking asphalt and making other necessary repairs to streets.  Also supervises and assists in building forms for sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and other foundations; pouring and finishing cement work; operating painting equipment for painting street lines and street signing; cleaning walks, roadsides, gutters, curbs, culverts, and other facilities. Reports work progress; submits purchase requisitions for materials and equipment. Reads and works from blueprints.  Responds to emergency calls.  Other duties as assigned.
