QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance. Example combinations include two (2) years relevant experience and completion of two (2) years college coursework in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The successful candidate will have a working Knowledge of municipal recreation programs for both senior and youth. Skill in communicating and dealing with the public in a polite and enthusiastic manner. Ability to develop, implement and assess recreation programs; perform facility maintenance; organize, plan, coordinate, and implement special events and excursions; supervise, assist, and safeguard children participating in City programs; communicate clearly and concisely; respond to critical incidents; act swiftly in an emergency; periodically lift up to 50 pounds; work effectively with fellow employees and participants; supervise and evaluate employees; research and write reports.
License/Certification Requirements: Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record.
GENERAL DUTIES: Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator will assess the recreational needs of the community to develop, administer and train employees to implement and assist in supervision of recreation, facility, and instructional programs including special interest classes, special events, excursions and recreational facility operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervision and maintenance at park sites and City facilities; serve as liaison between the Community Services and Recreation Department and community organizations; coordinate special events; assist groups using facilities by setting up for small or large events to include moving of equipment such as large tables and chairs; conduct/attend regular staff meetings/service training; conduct program registration; adhere to and enforce City and department policies and procedures; performs other duties as assigned.
