STATUS: At-Will/Hourly/Part-Time/Grant-Funded position
DEFINITION: Success Through Academics and Recreation (STAR) is a grant-funded after-school program operated in partnership with the Paramount Unified School District. STAR is designed to enhance children’s overall academic performance, reduce absenteeism, improve behavior, and re-engage the child in the educational process by providing homework assistance, mentoring, physical fitness, and recreational activities in a safe, supervised environment. Education and Experience: High school diploma required. Previous relevant experience or training in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field preferred.
Knowledge and Ability: The successful candidate will have the ability to interact with youth while organizing recreational activities and special events; supervise, assist, and safeguard children participating in STAR programs; communicate clearly and concisely.
GENERAL DUTIES: Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the successful candidate will be assigned to work in the STAR After School Program at elementary and middle schools within the City of Paramount; facilitate the delivery of the Kidzlit literacy curriculum in addition to math, enrichment, recreational, and homework assistance; maintain clean and organized classroom areas; actively participate in professional development activities including training workshops and coaching; supervise and ensure the safety of students; implement and assist in the supervision of recreation activities, sports programs, special events, and excursions; employ positive classroom management and discipline techniques; consistently support the mission of the STAR program; communicate with parents and volunteers as needed; and perform other duties as assigned.
